As we went to press, Oregon Citizens Alliance
Director Lon Mabon was being held in Multnomah County Jail for ignoring
court orders related to a damage lawsuit that he and the OCA lost in 1992.
In spite of Lon’s current troubles, the OCA continues to collect
signatures on its latest anti-gay and lesbian initiative. At the end of
January it had raised $68,610 in that effort. Given the OCA’s consistent
ability to qualify measures for the ballot, we continue to assume that we
will have a difficult campaign this fall. Unfortunately, the OCA still has
many supporters even as Mabon and some of his closest associates continue
to move farther toward the margins of the political spectrum. Check our
